7th Red Bull Nanshan Open - Day 1

Beijing, CHINA – January 10th, 2008 – Despite not a snowflake to fall yet this year in Beijing, the 7th Red Bull Nanshan Open again proved it is possible to hold a world-class snowboard event with a little bit of man-made snow and a lot of hard work!

This year’s 4-star TTR competition not only boasts its largest field of competitors to date, but also its most diverse, with competitors from 13 different countries in attendance. The park was in top shape as parkshapers Tommi ‘Mellow’ Marsh and Marco Huang joined forces for the third year in a row to build ’s cleanest, smoothest, and largest park. The riders were utilizing the features like kids in a playground, and were definitely enjoying themselves as they took to this brand new park setup!

Thanks to perfect weather, last year’s crowd favourite Freddy Austbo was not slowed down by the wind this time around and clearly took first place with a run consisting of a BS900 off the large kicker, Cab720 off the second, a Switch 540 up the wave and a FS360 off it. Not quite enough? He also chucked in a small 180 at the end to make sure he ticked all the boxes!

While none of the local field managed to qualify for Sundays event, the Chinese competitors definitely proved riding here is on its way up, and showed huge improvement from last year’s competition. The boys all stepped up and were throwing spins off the big kicker, each with at least one clean run and giving the mainly local crowd something to cheer about.

While there is a slight wind forecast set for tomorrow, we beg you to pray to the wind gods with us for a perfect day. XieXie!
